Policy 2002-2007
- In order to meet the ever increasing potable water demands of the province, Punjab government has launched a new community water supply and sanitation project with the cooperation of Asian Development Bank in 2003. Under this project new water supply and drainage schemes were launched in such rural areas of the province where the water was brackish. Besides these new schemes work on several on going water supply schemes were also in process. Under this project 755 schemes have been completed with a cost of Rs. 4284 million. This project will benefit the lakhs of people residing in rural areas and the facility of safe drinking water and drainage would also be made possible.
- Under this project, public awareness programmes would also be launched about construction of toilets, usage of boiled water and other principles of hygiene etc.
- Former CM Punjab was very determined that safe drinking water would be supplied to the entire province up to 2010. For this purpose, Rs. 5 billion was allocated during financial year of 2006-07 and 3 thousand schemes of water supply and drainage are being completed. Old pipelines are also being replaced.
- Rs. 6 billion are allocated for this programme during the financial year of 2007-08 which is 25 per cent more than the previous year.
