- In light of the new Industrial Policy-2003, announced by Punjab Chief Minister, self-assessment system of social security workers was enforced by eliminating 11 various inspection teams and unnecessary interference by the government functionaries.
- A mega development project at a cost of Rs.five billion was started under new industrial policy which will be completed within two years. Under this project medical facilities of 1400 beds being provided to industrial workers had to change into 3500 beds. Therefore, construction of hospitals of 100-bed each has been started at four big industrial cities, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujrat and Sialkot for this purpose.
- It was decided in new industrial policy that new labour complex will be constructed along all industrial estates to be established throughout the province where community centers, dispensaries, training centers and schools will be established for workers in one premises. As a first step of this project of two billion rupees, construction of labour complex adjacent to Sundar Industrial Estate, Lahore has been started.
- In order to provide additional residential facilities to industrial workers, three new labour colonies i.e. Sher-e-Bangal Colony Phase-II, Sheikhupura, Sialkot Labour Colony and Rahimyar Khan Labour Colony were constructed due to which 1620 more residential houses were provided to industrial workers.
- Punjab School of Mines, Katas at Choa Saidan Shah was completed at a cost of Rs.12.5 crore.
- Number of schools of workers welfare board was increased from 25 to 33 where education, stationary, uniform and transport facilities were provided free of cost to 17000 children of labourers.
- Disability pension of industrial workers was increased from Rs.100 to Rs.700 per month.
- Diet charges for ill industrial workers were enhanced from Rs.50 to Rs.100 per day.
- Conveyance allowance of industrial workers was increased from 33 paisas per km to 50 paisas per km.
- Death grant to be received by heirs of a deceased worker was enhanced from Rs.one lakh to Rs.1.5 lakh.
- The condition of marriage grant for two daughters has been abolished and this facility has been extended for all daughters. Further, amount of marriage grant has been from Rs.30000 to Rs.75000.
- Iddat benefit scheme for female labourer was introduced during this regime.
- Rs. 500 was increased in the minimum wages of industrial workers.
- Governing Body of Punjab Social Security has given approval for shifting the medical centers and dispensaries established in rented buildings to the own building of the institution and a committee has been constituted for implementation on this project.
- New busses and coasters were provided for providing pick and drop facility to doctors and paramedical staff of Social Security Hospitals.
- It was decided to increase the basic scale of nurses working in social security hospitals from 14 to 16 and a committee has been constituted in this regard.
- An amendment is being made in the recruitment policy of teachers for schools of labour department under workers welfare board.
