EDUCATION 
Policy 2002-2007

  •  Literacy rate in 2002 was 47%. It has enhanced up to 62% in 2007.
  • Enrolment rate was 45% in 2002. it has enhanced up to 70% in 2007.
  • For the provision of the access to schools and reduce dropout rate, the Punjab Government has introduced Punjab education sector reform program.
  • Free Education in public schools up to Metric.
  • Free Distribution of 28 million books in all public schools.
  • Stipend for 11 lac girls in 15 low literacy districts.
  • Provision of 118276 missing facilities in 63882 schools.
  • 50000 graduate teachers recruited and 275 schools upgraded/established.
  • Teacher’s training for 122087 teachers in 2007/08.
  • During the finical year 2007/08 missing facilities will be provided in 140 colleges and 90 colleges would be upgraded at the cost of Rs.2500 millions.
  • Training of 2000 lecturers.
  • Establishment of home economics colleges in Gujranwala and Multan.
  • Allocation of Rs.18.42 billions for 558 schemes under ADP 2007-08.
  • Under this program Rs. 8 billion and 95 crore has been fixed for 333 ongoing schemes while 9 billion and 46 crore have been ear marked for 25 new schemes.
  • Allocation of Rs. 3.76 billion for school education.
  • Allocation of Rs.2.22 billion for Chief Minister accelerated program for social development.
  • Rs. 2 billion and 50 crore for chief minister’s education reform program.
  • Rs. 1 billion,45 crores and 93 lacs for higher education.
  • Rs. 1 billion,97 crores and 66 lacs for chief minister’s accelerated program (Higher Education)
  • Rs. 2.5 billion for Chief Minister Education reforms program for colleges.
  • Grant of Rs. 4 billion for public universities.


SPECIAL EDUCATION
Special measures have been taken during the provincial Government of Ch. Pervaiz Elahi to establish separate department for the welfare of Special persons and sufficient funds were allocated to provide better facilities to them. Salient features of such measures are:
·         Special Education Department was set up on 1st October, 2003.
·         Rs. 400 million were allocated during the fiscal year 2004-05 for the educational facilities of special children which has been increased by 954 million in current fiscal year.
Following are the facilities being provided free of cost to the special persons:
  • Education
  • Hearing equipments
  • Wheel chairs
  • Books
  • Brail books
  • Pick and drop transportation facilities
  • Stipend of Rs. 200/- per month
  • Daily milk
·         168 special educational institutions are functioning in the province. Earlier the number of such institutions was 49. Government has given special attention on the problems and welfare of special persons.
·         First Degree College for the special persons was established at Lahore on 1st September 2004 whereas another degree college has been set up at Bahawalpur.
·         To facilitate the teachers and other staff, their salaries were doubled.
·         Special courses have been launched for the training of teaching staff to solve physio-social problems of special persons.
·         2% quota was reserved for the special children in all educational institutions of the province.
·         Brail printers have been purchased.
Following projects have been set up during the year of 2005-2006.
·         Talking Libraries
·         Computer Laboratories
·         Low vision centres
·         Audiological clinics
·         Provision of teaching aid
·         Provision of technical assistance and financial support to special educational institutions in private sector.
