FOREST
Policy 2002-2007 

·         The department was created in 1886 under British rule as Imperial Forest Service and Pakistan Forest Service came into existence in 1947 after creation of Pakistan.
·         After dismemberment of one unit in 1969, Punjab Forest Service was created.
·         Forest Department proceeds under Forest Act 1927.
MISSION STATEMENT.
·         Develop, maintain, conserve and maximize forestry Sector Resources in the province of Punjab for sustainable development, Biodiversity and help improve the quality of life.
VISION
·         Forest cover has to increase from 5% to 6% by 2015 under Millennium Development Goal (MDG).
·         Bridge the gap of supply and demand of wood.
·         Sustainable development of public forest for optional resource management.
·         Improvement of tree cover in state forests.
·         Increase in farm trees from 17 to 28 per acre.
CURRENT STATUS
·         The compact tree plantation of the Forest Department cover an area of 529,175 hectars which exists in the form of coniferous forest, scrub forests, irrigated plantations and riverine forests. The linear plantations along canals and roadsides are on 47,307 av. miles. There is a strong sense of crisis in forestry and department has chalked out a policy to focus on following points.
o   Increase in irrigated forests.
Ø  Plantation of indigenous trees.
Ø  Regeneration on blank areas
Ø  Public private partnership

5- YEARS PERFORMANCE
·         Afforestation on 28112 acres.
·         Regeneration on 13754 acres.
·         Linear plantation on 6736 Av. Miles
·         4.15 crore potted plants and nursery on 1058 acres raised
·         Plantation of 146.78 million saplings
Income of Rs. 3189.60 million through sale of wood.
