Policy 2002-2007
The basic responsibility of Mines and Minerals Department is to prepare feasibilities and surveys for mineral resources and prepare procedures for leasing of various mines. The allocation of funds for this sector has been increased during current year 2007-2008 as compare to last year by 1.07%.
STRATEGY
· Preparation of techno-economic feasibility study and promotion of the reserves of iron ore in Chiniot and its industrial use.
· Review and exploration of iron ore reserves near Rajwa district Jhang.
· Research of noble and base metal stones near Sargodha, Chiniot, Shahkot and Sanglahill mountain areas.
· Search and review of coal reserves at salt range.
· Establishment of mineral geo data centre.
· Establishment of potential mines cell at salt range.
· Rehabilitation and review of effected areas due to salt mining at Jhelum and Khushab.
· Treatment and review of acid mines drainage.
· Establishment of mines estate.
· Promotion of the reserves of rock salt at Mianwali and Khushab.
· Construction of carpeted roads in mining areas.
· Provision of electricity in mining areas.
· Establishment of ware house regarding mining machinery and safety equipments to mine operators.
· Upgradation of rescue and safety station for mine workers.
GOVERNMENT STEPS
· Complete financial help for the schemes of review and research of iron ore in Jhang for early completion from PUNJMIN.
· The ongoing schemes of coal exploration and review are going on under Directorate of Mines and Minerals at Khushab and Chakwal. Geological mapping has been completed and drilling process is going on. The funds have been released for the early completion of these schemes.
· Construction of carpeted roads in mining areas is the part of mines and minerals policy issued by the government of Pakistan and under this policy funds have been provided for construction of roads in Sargodha, Khushab and Chakwal.
A scheme to set up mine rescue and safety centres in Manara district Chakwal has been started during current to provide emergency medical facilities to mine workers.
