AGRICULTURE
Policy 2002-2007
- Under the mega projects for improvement of On-Farm Water Channels. 12560 water courses have been lined/improved in the province for better utilization/management of irrigation water.
- In order to promote modern water resources management technology and better utilization of available irrigation water 2500 laser units have been provided to the farmers at 50% subsidized rate in the province. These laser units have been provided at the Union Council level.
- Punjab Agriculture Research Board (PARB) has been re-activated as an apex research institution in the province to coordinate and supervise agriculture research in the province.
- Five research institutes i.e. cotton, rice, sugarcane, mango and citrus are being transformed into corporate mode to give administrative and financial autonomy and better pay package to the scientists to improve the performance of the scientists in the agriculture sector.
- State of the art bio-technology research institute has been established at Faisalabad with a cost of Rs. 800 million to promote modern bio-agriculture technology in meeting future food security needs of the country.
- A Pesticides Residue Lab has been established at Kala Shah kaku to facilitate export of contamination free commodities- a mandatory requirement under the WTO regime.
- The Directorate of Pest Warning & Quality Control of pesticides which aimed only in cotton areas has been extended to the entire province to ensure provision of unadulterated pesticides to the farmers, throughout the province.
- To promote bio-control of pests under the integrated Pest Management Programme. Six biological control laboratories have been established in the province for rising of predators/friendly insects to biologically control pests on all major crops.
- Agricultural Marketing Information Service has been established for enhancement of efficiency in marketing system through provision of timely, edible ---- information to stakeholders. The information is disseminated through electronic boards, website and telephone service.
- In order to involve private sector in the establishment and management of agricultural produce markets and to improve the efficiency marketing system, Punjab Agricultural Produce Marketing Ordinance being revised to provide for the establishment of markets in the private sector.
- To carry out value addition in the agriculture sector and to promote production of fruits and vegetables a fruit and vegetable development project is being implemented under which 22.000 farmers are being trained a specialized technology of fruit and vegetable production and 318 vegetables tunnels were provided to the farmers on cost sharing basis.
- Agriculture impla---8179 ridgers, 3200 sprays machines have been provided to the cotton growers at 50% cost sharing basis in non-core cotton districts i.e. Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Faisalabad and Okara.
- Service conditions and training of over 4,000 Field Assistants who are from line field workers in the sector have been substantially improved.
· Fruits and grain wholesale market (Mandi) of 18 cities would be shifted on a open space . The cities are included Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, Okara, Wazirabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Bhalwal, Samundari, Talagang, Chak Madrisa, Malka Hanse, Bonga Hayat, Bhera, Bhakkar, Chak Jhumra, Sheikhupura, Silanwali and Alabad.
· Agricultural Marketing Information Service System has been established in Punjab at a cost of Rs. 1,12,00000/- under which huge size of electronic display boards have been installed in markets of big cities while markets of 60 big cities have been interlinked to internet.
· Punjab Institute of Agricultural Marketing has been established in Lahore at the cost of 6 crore 40 lakhs to enhance the capacity of fruits and vegetables wholesale markets.
· With a view to increase the production and quality of fruits and vegetables, a project of fruits and vegetables development has been launched with an amount of Rs. 4 crore 60 lakhs. Under this projects, fruits and vegetables graders installed in Toba Tek Singh, Okara, Multan and Rahimyar Khan. To increase the working capacity of all stakeholders, a training facility has been ensured in Punjab Institute of Agricultural Marketing which has earlier established and the recruitment of staff for the institute has completed.
· A modern scale has been fixed in fruits and grains wholesale market of Multan. Such scale are been installed in Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Mian Channu.
· Kisan Khar have been constructed for growers of sugarcane who carry the sugarcane to the sugar mills. While construction of Kisan Khar in Nankana Sahib and Hujra Shah Maqeem in progress.
· In financial year 2007-08, an amount of Rs. One billion 40 crore allocated for the agriculture marketing. This amount would use initiate 14 new projects. These projects are wholesale fish market and frozen vegetable plants and urban wholesale market in Lahore. Moreover, potato dehydration plants and construction of cold storage in Bhalwal.

FOREST
Policy 2002-2007
· The department was created in 1886 under British rule as Imperial Forest Service and Pakistan Forest Service came into existence in 1947 after creation of Pakistan.
· After dismemberment of one unit in 1969, Punjab Forest Service was created.
· Forest Department proceeds under Forest Act 1927.
MISSION STATEMENT.
· Develop, maintain, conserve and maximize forestry Sector Resources in the province of Punjab for sustainable development, Biodiversity and help improve the quality of life.
VISION
· Forest cover has to increase from 5% to 6% by 2015 under Millennium Development Goal (MDG).
· Bridge the gap of supply and demand of wood.
· Sustainable development of public forest for optional resource management.
· Improvement of tree cover in state forests.
· Increase in farm trees from 17 to 28 per acre.
CURRENT STATUS
· The compact tree plantation of the Forest Department cover an area of 529,175 hectars which exists in the form of coniferous forest, scrub forests, irrigated plantations and riverine forests. The linear plantations along canals and roadsides are on 47,307 av. miles. There is a strong sense of crisis in forestry and department has chalked out a policy to focus on following points.
o Increase in irrigated forests.
